ShipComm Further Expands Data Center Capacity & Capabilities
November 25, 2008 - Charleston SC: Shippers Commonwealth (“ShipComm”), the industry innovator as leading provider of On-Demand Transportation Management System (TMS) Programs, offered on hosted license and subscription basis, including as the originators of Software As A Service (SaaS) programs for the TMS industry, announced further expansion of its Data Center capacity and capabilities, as continuing part of ongoing major capital improvement programs.
In hosting some of the largest multi-client TMS programs in North America, ShipComm has expanded its primary and backup data centers with increased processing and data communications capacity, and improved failover and fault tolerance programs, for continuing its world-class levels of business continuity in all hosted TMS programs. This builds upon the Company’s proven track record of the highest system performance uptime and response time in the industry, as benefiting all clients who rely upon ShipComm systems to run their enterprise shipment management programs.
As part of this improvement program in data center capacity and continuity, the Company also further enhanced its automated data replication for seamless system redundancy as part of its overall High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) programs, along with augmented network security and bandwidth. This multi-year capital improvement program for ongoing data center capacity and capability expansion is targeted to insure continuing levels of high quality service delivery to all clients, while concurrently supporting significant growth in transaction processing levels handled by ShipComm.
Concurrent with the above improvement programs, the Company also is actively moving to full Virtualization of its key program offerings, to provide further improvements in data center continuity, high availability, and economies of scale that benefit all customers. The Company also continues to expand its array of Web-based, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) logistics automation programs, as the single stop “supermarket” and multi-shipper automated collaboration center for its ever-expanding client network.

The ShipComm HA/DR expansion program was led by ShipComm task force under direction of Sharon Smith, CFO & Commerce Director working with Al Gobel, CTO, with key contributions from Jason Steffler and Ian Jones as members of the ShipComm IT lead team. The ShipComm HA/DR & Virtualization team was augmented by “best of breed” industry consultants, including NetTelcos of Glen Allen VA (long-time data center co-location provider to the Company, and part of the Continental Broadband group) and system engineering expertise from E-Group (Charleston SC) and Matrix Systems (Columbia SC).
