ShipComm Introduces First Effective E-Bid Freight Program with its ShipBid Series for LTL and TL Freight Procurement

March 30, 2009 - Charleston SC: Shippers Commonwealth ("ShipComm"), the leader in collaborative logistics systems, has successfully launched the first effective electronic bid system for motor freight, with its ShipBid series.

ShipBid for TL provides for online RFQ’s with contract rules, online rate quotes and analysis, including bid optimization and lane allocation analysis in considering minimum commitments and maximum capacities by lane (if desired, for high volume lanes or all routes) as missing from e-procurement lightweight packages designed to obtain quotes for paper clips and rubber bands, not for freight. The program can be used for international or domestic motor freight bids, and also adapted for global ocean or intermodal quotes. Awarded contract rates can also be exported to your TMS or rates database for freight management and payment.

ShipBid for LTL, or Bid$ense, is collaborative offering from ShipComm in conjunction with SMC3, the non-profit LTL carrier organization. Bid$ense handles online quotations and analysis for linehaul and minimum charges covering all actual and adjusted (billed) freight classes. Rates can be converted from different electronic tariffs to a common tariff or cost per hundredweight per class (density rating), to analyze baseline freight costs at current vs. newly quoted rates online. Qualitative weighting for incumbent vs. new carriers, financial condition and insurance coverage of carriers, performance ranking, direct vs. interline service, and transit times can be included in the automated LTL bid analysis in addition to free optimization of all LTL costs.

Savings of 15 - 40% have been attained with the ShipBid series in actual, large-scale freight procurement programs conducted to date, especially in using the power of these tools to do deep analysis of thousands of lane prices, and identify best opportunities for rates, cost, and coverage by qualified carriers with acceptable capacity and performance levels.

ShipComm uniquely offers it ShipBid program in conjunction with its ShipMark automated rate and KPI freight benchmarking service, to also allow clients to assess RFQ bid rates against realized effective costs in the marketplace. ShipBid is offered on a per-bid engagement basis at low cost with capped gain share feature, applicable only if the bid saves you money.
